Thanks to your help, we’re more than halfway to our goal of raising $2,400 to send two young women to  Sister Freda’s nursing school. By donating whatever you can to help educate these young women, you’re single-handedly helping break the cycle of poverty and dependence.

When the LG’s volunteered in Kenya, they visited a rural nursing clinic run by Sister Freda. The clinic helps hundreds of Kenyans who would be unable to receive health care. Sister Freda has since started a nursing school in order to empower young women and provide them with the education to become health care professionals so they can in turn help their communities.

We’re still waiting for photos from Sister Freda, but she’s selected two worthy candidates. Celestine is 18 years old and an orphan who raised her siblings. She wants to be a nurse so she can positively influence other young women because she says girls in her community are often dependent on finding a husband and can’t earn a living on their own. In her scholarship application essay she writes “as a lady, when I have received my dream and finally get employment as a nurse, I will be able to make my own decisions without wholly depending on any man. This will encourage other girls and ladies to come out and shine to become educated to make their own salaries and make their own decisions in life.” She expresses the desire to live boldy and blaze her own path in life, similarly to the way the LG’s made their own decisions to travel the world.

Kelvyne is 20 years old and raised her three younger siblings after her mother passed away. She yearns to be a nurse to touch other people’s lives and to give back to the community. In her application she writes “As a nurse you make a real difference in people’s lives every day. Your knowledge and skills will help your family and your community. Nursing gives you the gift of being with people at their happiest and saddest times: at birth and at death.”

These two young women truly have the power to set an example to other girls and educating them will help educate an entire community. With your help we can aid in them in achieving their dreams. Please
