Viator Travel Update: Tokyo
A powerful 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit part of Japan and Tokyo this past Friday night, generating a subsequent 23-foot tsunami that submerged some of the Japanese coast. Our hearts here at Viator go out to everyone, and our thoughts are with our Japanese friends and local tour operators.
We are monitoring the situation in Japan carefully and are doing our best to get timely information from our local operators throughout Japan.
Travelers are advised to call their airlines for the latest flight information on flights to and from Japan. For customers with already purchased tours, we will be waiving any fees for cancellations received by Saturday, 19 March. For any bookings cancelled after 19 March, normal cancellation fees will apply. Please contact our customer care team for more specific information.
We are thankful that the tsunamis that hit Hawaii and the west coast of the US – including San Francisco – have not caused major damage or injuries.
